To be able to freely walk through this terrifying labyrinth only makes one of gaming’s greatest locations even more glorious. It can also be fully explored without any loading screens or cutscenes. The Ishimura is hands-down the least welcoming ship in any universe, and being able to see this rust-colored behemoth in even greater detail is breathtaking. The USG Ishimura where Dead Space is set is reborn, hissing, and more sinister than ever. I definitely blocked the Necromorph babies from my memory, but here they are ready to skewer you through the head if you aren’t too careful. While gruesome games were admittedly in their golden era during the mid-2000s (think of how popular Gears of War was back then), Dead Space really tried to outdo the competition. No release date or official gameplay has been revealed yet, but it seems like the Dead Space remake is in good hands at EA Motive. My time with this preview build reminded me just how gnarly Dead Space was in the first place. Going the remake route will allow new players to experience Isaac Clarke's horrific journey for the first time, or invite fans of the series to enjoy the game in an improved state. This type of remake for Dead Space is reminiscent of the recent Demon's Souls remake, overhauling the original game to provide a better gaming experience on newer gaming platforms. The title will only appear on next-gen consoles and PC, with Creative Director Roman Campos-Oriola telling IGNthat it will allow the team to make the immersion of the game "even deeper with a fully interactive experience, from the start screen to the end credits." The remake will improve upon gameplay and the story of the original, while improving the visuals and 3D audio using the Frostbite game engine. The team at EA Motive stated that they would be completely remaking the first Dead Space game from the ground up for fans to enjoy.
